هنرمند گرسنگی اثر فرانتس کافکا

کافکا یک نابغه است. 
نه برای آن‌که من می‌گویم و نه برای آن‌که عالیجناب کوندرا بارها و بارها به شکلی باشکوه او را ستایش می‌کند. او هیچ نیازی به معرفی و تحسین ما ندارد و نبوغش را به سادگی می‌توان در داستان‌های کوتاه و بلندش دید. به سال ۱۹۲۴ این داستان کوتاه را نوشت: هنرمند گرسنگی. بسیار کوتاه است و می‌توانید در یک سفر درون مترو آن را به پایان رسانید اما عمق داستانش آن‌قدر زیاد است که باید مراقب باشید از ایستگاه مقصد عبور نکنید. 
کافکا همان کافکای همیشگی‌ست. 
اصلا مگر می‌شود کافکا گونه‌ی دیگری باشد؟ شکل دهنده‌ی شخصیت و افکار او چیزی نبوده که او بتواند در گذر زمان تغییر کند. در این داستان او با مضامینی چون «هنر، تنهایی و شخصیت انسان» و با استفاده از سبک قلم خود که ویزگی ذاتی آن سورئالیسم و نمادگرایی‌ست، داستان خود را پیش می‌برد. در این داستان قفس استعاره‌ای از انتظارات و فشارهایی است که جامعه و مردم به هنرمندان تحمیل می‌کنند، و تحمل گرسنگی استعاره‌ای از مبارزه‌ی هنرمند علیه بی‌مزه و پولی شدن هنر در جامعه است. 
راوی داستان زندگی یک هنرمند تنها را برای ما بازگو می‌کند.
این هنرمند در قفسی می‌نشیند و با تحمل گرسنگی مردم را به خود جذب می‌کند. مردم از نمایش هنرمندانه‌ی او لذت می‌برند و او را تحسین می‌کنند اما هیچکس به راز درونی او پی نمی‌برد. نه تنهایی و غم درونی او را درک می‌کنند و نه اصلا می‌فهمند برای چه او چنین هنری را اجرا می‌کند.
هنرمند گرسنه، داستانی پیچیده و تمثیلی است.
نباید و نمی‌توان از این داستان به سادگی عبور کرد. آری، چند صفحه‌ای را با دنیای کافکا همراه می‌شویم و سرانجام خواندنش به پایان می‌رسد، اما اعتراف می‌کنم تاثیر خود را به روی ما می‌گذارد. این داستان یک تمثیل یا استعاره است که می‌توان آن را در زندگی در موارد مختلف شبیه‌سازی کرد.  من به داستان ورود نکردم چون آن‌قدر کوتاه است که منجر به اسپویل می‌گردید، اما خواندنش را به تمام دوستان کتاب‌خوانم به خصوص کافکا دوستان پیشنهاد می‌کنم.
سالی را که با گابو آغاز کردم با کافکای عزیزم به پایان رساندم.

امیدوارم ۲۰۲۴ سالی باشد که بیشتر از ۲۰۲۳ بخوانم، یاد بگیریم و دوستان بیشتری را به دنیای کتاب‌ها دعوت کنم. حالا وقتش است که بنشینم و به بررسی مطالعاتم در طی سالی که گذشت بپردازم تا بتوانم برای سال آینده برنامه‌ریزی و لیست مطالعه‌ی جدید بنویسم.

The last book I read in 2023 was Franz Kafka's 'A Hunger Artist.' This thought-provoking and allegorical exploration of the human condition, artistic expression, and societal expectations was published in 1922. The story delves into the life of a hunger artist who employs fasting as a form of performance art, raising questions about the nature of art, individuality, and the search for meaning.

One of the central themes in the story revolves around the conflict between the hunger artist's internal artistic pursuit and external societal expectations. The artist's fasting, initially celebrated as a unique and captivating form of art, becomes increasingly misunderstood and marginalised by the public. This raises questions about the fickle nature of public opinion and the challenges artists face in maintaining their authenticity in the face of societal pressures.

Kafka skilfully depicts the hunger artist's isolation and alienation despite his public performances. The artist remains an enigmatic figure, locked in a cage, physically and emotionally distant from the audience. This serves as a metaphor for the isolation often experienced by artists who struggle to communicate their innermost thoughts and feelings to a world that may not fully understand or appreciate their art.

The story explores the irony of recognition – the hunger artist's desire for acknowledgment clashes with society's inability to comprehend the true essence of his art. While he seeks validation, the hunger artist remains trapped in a cycle of loneliness and dissatisfaction. Kafka subtly critiques the nature of fame and recognition, suggesting that true artistic understanding is elusive and often incompatible with popular acclaim.

Kafka employs symbolism and surrealism throughout the narrative, enhancing its depth and complexity. The cage, representing both physical and psychological confinement, symbolises the limitations imposed on the artist by societal expectations. The act of fasting becomes a surreal metaphor for the artist's struggle against conformity and the commodification of art.

In "A Hunger Artist," Kafka masterfully weaves a narrative that invites readers to reflect on the nature of artistic expression, societal conformity, and the elusive quest for true understanding. Through the protagonist's journey of fasting and isolation, Kafka creates a poignant exploration of the challenges faced by artists in their pursuit of authenticity and recognition in a world that may not always grasp the depth of their creative endeavours. The story remains a timeless and thought-provoking work that continues to resonate with readers, inviting them to contemplate the complexities of the human experience.
